I’m guilty of singing this song everywhere – shower, car, down the street, cooking while using tongs as my microphone. There’s no denying the classic beauty and sound of this majestic ballad. Everyone and their uncle has probably sung it at one point in their lives either solo or in the presence of others. It’s also a pretty challenging song. With so many renditions, this grand classic isn’t for the faint of heart.
And so Mariana Oliveria, on the final round of “The Voice Portugal,” decided to take on the Leonard Cohen favorite, “Hallelujah.”
Mariana’s been singing since she was a child, and enrolled in her school’s choir to help quench her musical thirst – but it wasn’t enough. She wanted more, so the moment she could, she jumped at the chance to be part of “The Voice.”
Now, Mariana’s voice isn’t your average kid’s voice. She’s got this low and rumbling projection that adds a whole new tone to the song. She’s warm and rolling, her voice never cracking, but still able to reach those high, up there, notes. Mariana’s raspiness and soul had each of the three judges slamming down on their buzzers, eager to see where this voice was coming from! Her inspirational performance garnered positive feedback from the judges causing her to break down and cry tears of joy.
