It is no secret that a mother’s love is often considered to be one of the strongest types of love on earth. The moment that a mom brings her baby into this world, and even before, she is often fiercely protective and loving over the tiny life she has created. In many species, not just humans, a mother will spend months and even years caring for her little ones.
From the moment they are born, many animals are very dependent on their mothers. It’s not always just physical, but emotional, as well. Animals are capable of more emotion than we realize, and even they need and crave the comfort and security of having their mother close by.
The Freedom Farm Sanctuary and its staff and volunteers work hard to give animals that didn’t have the best start in life a second chance in this world. Their goal is to help these animals stay happy, healthy, and live in a safe environment. The sanctuary has saved the lives of many animals, and with that mission comes many heartbreaking moments, but also many emotional, tear-jerking, and heartwarming events. The story about two rescued lambs is one of the happy moments that they were able to witness and be a part of.
The two young lambs arrived at the sanctuary after living on an overcrowded farm where they were being raised as food. Animals in this situation don’t usually receive much love and comfort, though some places are better than others as far as basic care. Upon arrival, the tiny pair were stressed and terrified. The staff hoped to comfort them, but the lambs were afraid of people. The rescuers were determined to give them the time and space they needed to become happy and healthy, but sadly, the little lambs stopped eating and began to go downhill.
The sanctuary did some research into the farm where the lambs came from and determined that their mother was still there. She was due to meet her fate as a food animal in the next few days, so the rescuers jumped into action and saved the lambs’ mother, as well.
She arrived at the sanctuary on a chilly, rainy day and the rescuers brought the mama sheep into the barn where the lambs were located. When she started calling, the little lambs perked up, obviously recognizing something. In the next moments, the mama sheep had the most beautiful reunion with her babies.
