The shutdowns due to the C*********s are understandable. Although, I know many of us are missing our favorite restaurants that have made the decision to stay closed during this time, or at the very least, have restricted hours. Even those who are operating at their regular hours have had to change how customers are able to order and dine at their facility. We won’t pretend that we aren’t disappointed, but we all are making the best of it.
But a pair of Māori-Italian parents from New Zealand didn’t want their sweet, two-year-old daughter, Mareikura, to be upset on her birthday. The fact that her birthday party would have to be delayed was already bad enough. But they knew that she deserved a little something to make her birthday special during the shutdown. However, their plan to go to McDonald’s to get her, her all-time favorite cheeseburger wasn’t an option as McDonald’s were all closed in their area. But the parents had an alternative plan.
As to not disappoint their daughter, the parents decided to recreate the drive-thru experience to ensure their toddler could still have her favorite birthday meal.
“What are we doing in the car?” the parents asked Mareikura and her brother.
The children responded that they have no idea. But, boy, they were in for a special treat.
Their car pulled up to a drive-thru-like window of their friend’s home. Behind the open window was their friend wearing a DIY McDonald’s uniform, hat and all, with a toy cash register.
The family couldn’t help but crack up at the friend’s silly attempt to pretend to be a McDonald’s employee. He sure knows how to make someone’s day!
After the parents “paid” for the meal, they received two “Happy Meals,” which were instead presented in red gift bags that had makeshift golden arches pasted on to make the experience as close as it could get.
Upon arriving home, two-year-old Mareikura and her older brother opened their Happy Meals to reveal a delicious cheeseburger, fries, and a toy, just like the real deal. Although the food wouldn’t be identical to the real McDonald’s, I’m sure both children loved their food. Who can resist burgers and fries anyhow?!
Watch the unique McDonald’s recreation below. They did a fabulous job! I hope little Mareikura will look back on this moment when she’s older and be incredibly thankful for what her parents did to make her birthday extra special.
