The lip sync video challenge amongst different police and fire departments has been making it’s round in the United States for months now. Departments across the country, from different cities and small towns, have been putting their best lip sync skills to use to upstage the previous contenders.
Now, the police lip sync battle has officially made its way over the border and into Canada. The Saskatoon Police Force, from the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, are using their skills and next level talent to put together their comeback to the challenge that’s been sweeping the continent!
This is a particularly hilarious video that starts off serious. An officer had something stolen from him and wants to find out which officer is the criminal. The missing item? A donut! “You recognize any of these people?” “No, I don’t, I went to the washroom, came out and the donut was gone. But I do remember them singing a song…. I think it was “I Want It That Way.” “Backstreet Boys, one of my faves.” Fans of the American sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will recognize this scene.
It’s this funny moment that then sparks a full-on version of the song that brings everyone from the department together. There’s some coordinated dancing, lots of smiles and even a couple of key scenes that are a throwback to the original Backstreet Boys music video. Even a few special effects were added for good measure — like the use of pyrotechnics. It’s a really engaging video that brings viewers to different scenes and settings and puts on a good show for everyone involved.
Here’s the department’s official statement:
“Remember those lip-sync challenges going around Police Services over the last month or so? We do, and at the time we heard from many in our community that we should be getting involved – so we did! And in line with the philosophy that all great things take time, we’re excited to present our lip sync video of Backstreet Boys…including a scene re-enactment from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. We weren’t officially challenged from a Police Service so we won’t be throwing down any challenges ourselves, but if anyone thinks they can one-up our efforts, feel free!
Special thanks to everyone who helped make this possible, especially the sworn and civilian members that volunteered their holidays, days off and lunch hours to make this possible.”
