Everyone is well aware of the royal couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. One of the things that makes this couple so iconic isn’t just the fact that they share the royal limelight but also that Meghan was born in America. While a British marrying an American citizen is not unheard of, people still, for some reason, found the match unordinary. For this reason among many others, it is no wonder we frequently hear about the royal couple.
So with the media blasting every detail on Harry and Meghan’s, life there are plenty of rumors to clear up. Queen Elizabeth II’s royal wedding declaration for the couple provides important information regarding the royal marriage on a broad scale. As a result of learning this information, it makes it clear why the “drama” between Queen Elizabeth II and Meghan doesn’t exist as some may believe.
But before delving into the information we learn from the declaration, it’s first important to mention the traditions that take place prior to a royal wedding. To start, after a royal engagement takes place, it must be officially announced. In turn, this leads to a press conference with the future spouses where an interview must take place.
What Meghan mentioned in her interview brought to light some things many may not have known about her. We all know her the Los Angeles-born actress prior to being involved with Prince Harry. What some of us may not know if that the now-Duchess earned a degree in theatre and international studies in 2003 from the Northwestern University. It was also mentioned that Meghan had several small U.S. television roles including “Suits,” “Remember Me,” and “Horrible Bosses.”
The royal press conference is followed by the royal wedding declaration. This declaration is a formal blessing provided by the current queen that is required according to the British royal law.
Meghan and Harry interestingly did not receive the Queen’s blessing until just months before they were set to wed in May of this year. In the declaration, Queen Elizabeth II referred to Prince Harry as her “most dearly beloved grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Whales” without providing any adjectives for Meghan; she simply referred to her by her birth name, Rachel Meghan Markle.
Despite all the rumors of the Queen not accepting the Duchess, there are reasons why she referred to Meghan using her formal name. For one, the Queen adhered to strict protocol when referencing Meghan’s legal identity in her declaration and in no way meant to disrespect her. Secondly, this declaration reminds us of the time when the Queen gave her legal blessing for the 2011 marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. She referred to Kate using her formal name only.
In the end, Queen Elizabeth II loves Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Meghan also has a heavy respect for the Queen, in which she quotes, “When I met [Queen Elizabeth II] I had such a deep understanding and, of course, incredible respect for being able to have that time with her, and she’s an incredible woman.”
