Getting sprayed by a skunk is a total buzzkill. It’s never happened to me (thank goodness!) but a friend’s dog had a run in with a skunk and it’s not pleasant. While this instantly recognizable black and white striped creature usually resists from spraying (it takes up to 10 days to produce each supply), they will release their scent if they feel like they’re in danger and defenseless.
Bottom line, if they’re in a tricky situation, skunks will most likely panic and spritz, and that stench is really hard to get rid of! Ask any human who’s gone through the pain, or one who’s pet has, they’ll tell you all about it!
So, what would you do if you saw a skunk in trouble? I’m sure the officer in this video had to stop and think for a moment when he saw this situation go down right before his eyes. Should I or should I not? The officer was driving around in his cruiser when he noticed a critter running around in circles on the road. Instantly, he could tell it was a skunk, but what wasn’t so clear was why on earth the silly skunk was acting so strangely?
The officer pulled over and was able to put the pieces together. The skunk, a baby, had managed to get his head stuck in a yogurt cup, and couldn’t get out. He became panicked and didn’t know what else to do other than react by running around in circles, freaking out and scared. That’s when the cop knew he had to step in – with extreme caution.
The officer ever so slowly creeps over to the frantic animal, and carefully lowers down. When the timing is right, he quickly snatches the food container, and as gracefully as possible, gets the heck out of the way before the skunk lifts his tail, ready to fire. The cop hops over to a safer distance in the nick of time and watches from afar to make sure the frazzled skunk is ok. The animal looks up, appears confused but alive. I’m just happy that the cup is removed and the officer is spray-free! I’d say it’s a good day for all!
