Moms are bonded to their babies no matter how old they are! Even when their baby, as seen in their eyes, reaches their 30s, 40s, 50s, moms still think of their offspring as exactly that – something they created and is, therefore, their youngin’! It’s the natural chain of command, I suppose, and while time may pass, between mother and child, it will always stand still. There’s is something so beautiful about that notion, don’t you think?
If you think about it, there are moments where everything stands still, too. You know those seconds that seem to go on forever? Those moments where you have all the words in the world in your head, but you can’t seem to tie them down to form a sentence, and uttering them is just too much work, you’re so blown away! Words can fail us when we’re deep into a moment that moves us so greatly.
When Helena DeJohn was diagnosed with breast cancer, and colon cancer and then suffered two strokes, she started spending a lot more time in and out of the hospital. Her health was unstable, making life a lot more of a struggle day in and day out. While she’s been through much in her life, her sons decided that her next birthday, her 87th, would be a day of surprises and celebration! A day all about her, for her.
So, her two sons plotted together to make her day extra special. Older brother Carl wanted to come in from out of town to surprise Helena. He hasn’t seen his mom in three years. With the help of his younger brother Anthony, they worked in cahoots with the employees of a local restaurant the family visits often. To pull off the surprise, they came up with a plan that had Helena in tears.
The idea, thanks to the generous staff at the Sakura Japanese Steakhouse, was to dress Carl as a chef, and bring the food to his mom. She didn’t clue in at first, but when she pieced it together, she was rendered speechless. She was in complete shock, her eyes welling up and her face totally pale. Carl had to take a seat and comfort her, but at the end of it all, she was thrilled to see her long lost son. It’s a really touching moment that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of everyone involved!
