The mother instinct is fierce, and it isn’t only apparent in humans. Mothers and their babies share an impenetrable bond from the moment of conception to delivery. This natural drive lives in many animals, and some of the most notably maternal species of the animal kingdom include (but are certainly not limited to): gorillas, cheetahs, and gazelles. But even domesticated animals feel the depth of this relationship, especially if their newborn babies’ lives are in danger.
Four-year-old Kuma from Bangkok is feeling anxious. She just gave birth to three puppies, two of which are too weak to be on their own, so they were put into an incubator for extra care.
What’s so heartwarming about this footage is how Kuma eagerly awaits her babies’ recovery. She is literally on standby, perched on a green stool, hoisted up against the incubator as she peers in. Her weight is balanced on her hind legs and her paw forward, lovingly looking in. The two itty bitty puppies are seen inside, one fast asleep and the other is adorably squirming to life.
While at first, surely Kuma and the owners, the Yuta family, thought that maybe the little doggy family was in trouble, things looked up for the soon after. It’s the speedy trip to the hospital and the extra care that’s helped both the puppies’ health. Even the dog dad, named Sour Pork, was there on the sidelines to show support.
The owner says, “They’re so cute. We love having them at home. Kuma was just watching her puppies like a nurse. She kept checking on them.” Everyone got to go home alive and well later that day.
