Talented Teen In Wheelchair Sings At Talent Show

Something that I have learned is that you should never let anything come in the way of your passion and dreams. No naysayer,  no personal problem, and no negative thoughts should ever affect your ability to try your best. You only live one life, what’s the point if you haven’t fulfilled everything you’ve ever wanted to do?

If my words haven’t convinced you, and you need an inspirational story to give you that extra boost, then tune into the video below. I’m sure you’ll be convinced very soon.

Jared Watson is a high school junior from Delaware. He is an incredibly talented singer. He also happens to be in a wheelchair. Jared suffers from spinal muscular atrophy, a disease that affects his spinal cord. But, his disability hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his dream of becoming a star. The 16-year-old is well on his way to achieving that dream.

At his school talent show, Jared performed a gorgeous cover of Randy Travis’ “I Told You So.” But, he wasn’t alone. The teen’s father, Lee, accompanied his son on the guitar. “He’s sung for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always known he’s a really good singer. And for him to ask me to back him up, it’s a thrill for me, being his father,” Lee said in an interview after the talent show.

A video of the talent show performance went viral, garnering hundreds of thousands of views. All of a sudden, the teenager had legions of fans appreciating his voice. One of those fans happened to be Randy Travis himself, who noticed the teen’s talent. Randy’s wife, Mary David, wrote a note of encouragement to Jared:

“Jared, you covered Randi’s song beautifully! Just want you to know Randy teared up when he listened to it this afternoon. Great job and we hope that one day soon we can meet you — we would be honored! Keep up the fight, the spirit, and the music; you are a very talented young man. God bless you and keep you in the palm of his almighty hand. Sending love and gratitude.”

Since his original video went viral, Jared’s career has skyrocketed. He continues to perform for his fans, and in 2018 he released his own song called “In The Name Of Freedom.”
