Acetone Slowly Dissolves A Rubik’s Cube, And It’s So Wonderfully Strange

How many people have played with a Rubik’s cube at least once? I know for many, it was an educating pass time when they were young; for someone like me, I still like going at it now and then to see if I can solve the puzzle. I’ll be very honest and say that I haven’t been able to do so in all these years.

It is definitely a surefire way to kill some time, and many parents would prefer that their kids spend time fiddling with a Rubik’s cube rather than sitting in front of the TV.

Although this activity is quite educational and forces you to think, it can get frustrating when none of your techniques are working, right? Perhaps that reason is why someone decided to close the chapter of the Rubik’s cube by trying to dissolve it. Now, we can’t say who came up with this experiment, and if it was really meant to make the little colorful box disappear, but a famous Youtuber decided to reenact the whole thing, and it made for a very mesmerizing sight!

Household Hacker takes to acetone to show people the effects it has on all the different materials that our “stuff” is made of. They take styrofoam, a piece of lego, and a Rubik’s cube and dip them into acetone. What happens next is seriously crazy!

Acetone is known to melt styrofoam and plastics, so the result of this experiment shouldn’t come as a surprise!

Check out the experiment below! And, if you’re conducting this test at home, please do so in an open area that is well-ventilated and away from any flames.
