16 Synchronized Ice Skaters Glide Across The Ice To “Bohemian Rhapsody”

There are a handful of songs written in our lifetime that just don’t seem to get rusty or sound outdated. In fact, it’s these songs that were so ahead of their time when they first came out, many people raised an eyebrow. And if there’s any track that raised a few eyebrows, surely it’s the extended operatic masterpiece, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen when it was released in 1975. And here, in 2019 and every decade to come, it doesn’t matter how much time passes because since Freddie Mercury channeled this tune from the ether and into our reality, this song is still on everyone’s lips…

…and skates on ice. We’ve come a long way since singing Bohemian Rhapsody in the car in Wayne’s World, and now we get to watch this track in synchronized motion, performed by the Canadian NEXXICE Senior team.

If you recall, the Queen megahit isn’t just one style of music that has a beginning, a middle and an end. In fact, it’s an emotional rollercoaster that pulls and pushes the listener, weaving them through fast and slow sections of a heart-pounding melody that is at times tragic and triumphant.
The music starts with the famous words, “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” The skaters are in formation but then break apart as they glide across the white ice. They split off in twos and threes, one group with a skater held above their heads.

The 16 skaters come back together to skate in perfect timing and with grace, as the song wears on picking up speed. The famous guitar solo comes in with a boom. The group splits again, giving a sense of a living, breathing, pulsating dance troupe that is hard to take your eyes off of. Their moves are tight. They are very well-rehearsed and it’s obvious they love what they do.

Let’s not forget that this is not a short song. It goes on for minutes, the skaters never losing steam or appearing out of breath. Their teamwork is incredible, and they were very well-received by the audience and judges. There are way too many moves, too many incredible displays of teamwork and trust, you have to watch this video for yourself.

Take a look below and catch the clip from beginning to end. There’s no doubt you’ll be entertained every second of the way. This team worked really hard to pull off such a spectacular performance.
