A Mess-Free Way To Pit Cherries Without A Cherry Pitter

Whether you’re looking to make a delicious dessert with some freshly picked cherries, or you just want to freeze them for smoothies, you gotta get rid of the pit! Or, even if you’re eating them fresh, but you’ve never liked spitting out the pit, it’s best to pit them beforehand. But, the problem with wanting to pit cherries is that you don’t actually have a cherry pitter. So, what do you do?

Well, in the video down below, the YouTube channel Handimania demonstrates one popular method to pit cherries in a mess-free and easy way.

Let’s talk about this simple and quick method to pit your cherries because, as the video begins by saying, “No cherry pitter? No problem!”

There are three things that you need to pit cherries.

  1. Chopsticks
  2. An empty bottle
  3. Cherries

First things first, grab the cherry and take the stem off. Then, you’re going to place the fruit on the rim of the bottle, right where you take a sip. Finally, you’re going to hold it in place and grab one of the chopsticks. You’re going to use that chopstick to stab through the very middle of the cherry (use where you removed the stem for guidance) and the pit will fall right out into the empty bottle.

The empty bottle is there to ensure that you’re not making a mess, and it captures the pit for you!

It may take a couple pushes, but any of the juiciness that pours out will fall into the bottle, and you won’t have to clean your countertop. Repeat this step until you’ve finished or until you’ve got enough of what you need.

If you find you’re a little hesitant about this method then we’re here to reassure you. One comment below the video read, “Thanks! That’s brilliant… [I] am just about to make jam, have got 10 lbs. [of] cherries, [and] that is the quickest and most efficient way I have seen yet.”

Somebody else who commented threw in another tip as an added bonus. They said, “Big tip though: Use gloves to avoid cherry red hands!”

Try this method out, and see if it works for you! Maybe it’ll speed up your cherry pie, ice cream, or chocolate cherry blondes baking process.

Words are great, but sometimes you need a video to really ensure that what you’re doing is correct. So, watch the video down below to learn how to pit cherries without using a cherry pitter.
