It can’t be stressed enough how important it is to always be thankful to those who serve our country. Men and women around the world leave their comfortable homes, loving families, and the safety of their own neighborhood to ensure that we can have everything they’re giving up. We sleep with peace of mind, knowing that someone is out there looking after the nation if there is ever the need.
While we get to celebrate milestones with our families, think about all the times that military families miss their loved ones who are out on duty: birthdays, graduations, the birth of a child, weddings, anniversaries etc. This list can go on and on.
I think it’s safe to say that adults do much better with parting from their significant other, sibling, and/or child than children do with parting from their parent. It’s tough to explain to a child why mom couldn’t be there for her birthday; or, what do you say when a toddler continues to miss dad and asks why he can’t tuck him into bed at night? This fact is one of the most disheartening things about being away in the military—you get to miss out on time with your children and see them grow up.
This exact reason is why reunions involving children are so precious. And, that’s what we’re about to share with you in the video below.
The clip opens to a young woman talking to her daughter. The daughter, Macy, is in a cute pink dress and holding a small, stuffed doll; the doll is of her dad who’s in the military.
Mom is saying that there is a surprise waiting for Macy, and asks the little girl what she thinks the surprise could be? To this question, Macy instantly replies, “cookies!” The girl then sets off looking for her surprise. When she can’t seem to find it, mom suggests that she open the front door and check outside.
Lo and behold, there is a big box (of cookies?) waiting for Macy to open up. The girl screams and runs towards it as mom asks her to take the wrapping paper off. And what was inside? Definitely not cookies! Her dad pops out of the box and the little girl is ecstatic! She yells “Daddy! Daddy!” and falls back on the steps, pleasantly surprised. What follows is a cute conversation between dad and daughter, while mom giggles and continues to record. So heartwarming!
