Mishaps happen all the time. We can’t control everything, and so, we shouldn’t put much thought into the things that are beyond our control. Rogers County Courthouse in Oklahoma was shut down Monday after a lawyer brought some unwelcomed guests with him into a third-floor courtroom of the establishment.
Legal professionals and the general public were shocked when a lawyer showed up with bed bugs crawling all over him; some described him as being very “non chalant” about the whole thing. Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton talked to KJRH News and said that it’s “hard to imagine someone doesn’t know, you know, that some bed bugs are crawling all over them certainly in abundance.”
But, it wasn’t the Sheriff who saw the man carrying these blood-sucking insects around. There was another woman in the room who noticed that they were literally crawling around his neck. He went on to explain that “he [the lawyer] had also placed his jacket over some file folders and when his jacket was moved bed bugs were discovered there.”
Mike Clarke, the head of security at the courthouse, said that this unnamed lawyer didn’t quite seem to care about the fact that he had brought in all these bed bugs. The courthouse, however, had to take drastic action almost immediately. They evacuated the entire building and called in pest control to get everything exterminated. Mike did mention that there was a safety concern as the situation unfolded because there were inmates present in the various courtrooms as well. So, they had to be careful when they were evacuating.
Sheriff Walton was not pleased with how things happened at the courthouse on Monday: “We are certainly not happy with someone coming in that condition to inconvenience everyone else in that building.”
Again, this incident poses a very appropriate question: Did the lawyer know that he was carrying a ton of bed bugs on his body and clothing? If so, why did he come into work? If not, how did he NOT feel them crawling around? I guess it’ll remain a mystery until he’s probed a bit further.
