Everyone wants to be celebrated on their birthday, it’s just a great way to know that you’re cared for and that you matter. You want others to be just as excited as you are when it comes to the day that you were born. No one likes to celebrate on their own, you want to get as many people involved in your birthday celebrations. And, that’s exactly what Joe Cuba decided to do.
Joe is a 99-year-old WWII veteran. He is turning 100-years-old on March 2, 2019, and he put up a post on Facebook asking people from the around the world to send him birthday cards. He took a picture of himself holding up a sign that read: “I’m a WWII veteran who will be turning 100 on March 2, 2019. I would like to receive 100 birthday cards.” This post was then shared thousands of times, Joe instantly went viral (and so did his request).
The resident at Brookdale Midwestern in Wichita Falls, Texas didn’t think his post would garner so much attention, but since the time that he has put that picture up on social media, he’s received over 2500 birthday cards and even some gifts; he’s now sitting at over 100 gifts! It’s not just people from the United States who have sent him these kind notes and gifts, people from Australia and Poland have chimed in too!
Joe is getting mail almost every single day and Brookdale Midwestern shared the piles of cards he’s been receiving on their Facebook page. By the looks of all the love Joe is getting, I’m sure that his birthday is made! Not only has his (early) birthday wish come true, but he also now knows how much love he can get from the people around him, even if they are strangers. The fact that he got such a big response to his request is so heartwarming.
The 99-year-old has a very positive outlook on life: “Just keep on trucking. When you like to do something, do it. If you don’t, don’t. But I’ll say if you’re interested in something, and have a chance to presume then life will get a hold of it and stay with it. Stay with something and you’ll get ahead. You’ll be okay.”
I’m sure he loves it when the mail comes in every day. If you want to send him a birthday wish, feel free to mail him at918 Midwestern Parkway, Wichita Falls, TX 76302. And, if there is someone else who patiently awaits the mail then it’s a 92-year-old who gets extra happy at the sight of the mailman.
