I love seeing brand new babies! Mom is kangaroo snuggling them and dad is pushing them in strollers. They’re tiny humans, little blank canvases who have no idea how they ended up in this weird world. Suddenly, they’re not as warm and protected anymore. Everything they hear is louder, sounds closer and seems unfamiliar. Everything they see is new and colorful and there’s just oh-so-much of it to take it all in. Touching, feeling, sensing – this is a brand new life and babies have no idea how to navigate it. I’m sure I cried my face off too when I was new!
Imagine if brand new babies came with instruction manuals! Oh, how much easier it would be! If for every delivery, each baby had a pamphlet personally highlighting what each of their sounds meant, and how to cater to every tiny little cry or sigh. Wouldn’t that make raising a baby a thousand times smoother? But, that’s not an option – it’s pure fantasy! – and it’s our job as parents and adults to bring our babies into this world and lead and teach, and provide the utmost comfort and love. If you come to think about it, as soon as babies come into this world, us parents already know how to look after them — it’s instinct.
In this video, dad Daniel Eisenman is lying down with his adorable baby daughter. The two are spending some quality father-daughter bonding time together, all snuggled up into each other. Everything is sweet and sound until baby starts crying hysterically. Poor dear is upset, and crying out loud with her face tight and her mouth wide open. Dad remained calm, cool and collected like the total pro that he is. He looks into the camera as if to say “Watch this,” looks at his baby and says the one syllable, “Om” for an extended period of time.
He doesn’t whisper it either! He is firm and says it with loudness and conviction, holding the syllable, and projecting at his baby. As if by magic, the baby suddenly stops crying. Her eyes become sleepy, her tantrum comes to a halt and she is rendered completely calm. She is off to dreamland, and handsome dad flashes the camera an “I told you so look,” complete with a “mmmhmmmm” to seal the deal! What a great trick to remember for next time!
