6 Memorable Talent Show Performances Throughout The Years

The moment “Britain’s Got Talent” or any other “Got Talent” season begins, I know exactly where I’ll be spending my Saturday nights, and how — on my couch in the family with a bowl of popcorn (yup, it’s not just for the movies!). With that said, here’s sharing with you some of the most iconic appearances on talent shows, so far!

Tune into performance number three to see one of the best a capella performances, the one that even impressed Simon Cowell!

6. Sophie Fatu: “My Way”

So, this little star didn’t appear on a talent show, but her talent is amazing enough to kickstart my list of favorite performances. Sophie Fatu is a 4-year-old who has so much control and range in her voice, that she could give a lot of trained singers a run for their money!

The girl’s mother is a singer and pianist herself, so it’s obvious where she gets the talent from, but to hear a voice like this one come out of a child is something that always takes me back.

The 4-year-old sings Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and it’s nothing short of fantastic!

5. Alica Fredenham: “Britain’s Got Talent,” 2013

Not many people have it in them to take on the world when they’re shy and timid. The then-28-year-old Alica Fredenham defied the odds when she took to the “Britain’s Got Talent” stage and fought her fears.

She was always afraid of failure; Alica is also a very shy and reserved person. So, when she came onto the show, the judges had to give her pep talks for her to give the performance all she’s got. And that she did!

Standing tall and confident, the talented woman belts out “My Funny Valentine” while throwing away all her inhibitions and anxiety. Did it pay off? Yes! Simon told Alica that her voice is like “liquid gold” — it doesn’t get better than that!

Here’s Alica giving her best yet on the show and getting all the well-deserved praise!

4. The Cocooners: “Britain’s Got Talent,” 2015

Who said dancing is just for the youngins?

Enter The Cocooners, a group of women, with their ages ranging from 63 and 80 years, who took “Britain’s Got Talent” to show everyone what tap dancing is all about. They come on stage wearing simple, frilly dresses but as soon as their act starts, those come off!

They’re donning glittery/shiny gold jumpsuits and mount individual platforms to showcase their dancing talent. One-by-one the women impress the judges, who are sitting there wide-mouthed and laughing and grooving along to their energy!

These ladies are a prime example of the saying, “Age is just a number.” What’s life without a little bit of fun and dance? It’d be pretty dull if you ask me, and The Cocooners would agree as well!

3. Chloe Paige: “The X Factor,” 2015

A capella isn’t as popular as a lot of us may want it to be. I think when you think about this song form, you instantly think the “Pitch Perfect” series because those movies are what is associated with a cappella. But, things are about to change after you watch this next performance.

“The X Factor,” back in 2015, introduced the world to Chloe Paige, a singer who was confident in her song, and form, choice. She got on stage and told the judges that she was going to sing “Amazing Grace” in a capella. Simon instantly looks at her and says, “You’re a brave girl.”

I’m sure this comment made Chloe a tad bit nervous, but she instantly chucked those feelings out the window and began her performance. And are we glad she stuck to her gut! Her act blew everything out of the water! Singing unaccompanied isn’t easy, but the crowd is roaring with cheer while she’s still in the middle of her singing. And, as for Simon — according to him, Chloe deserves a seat in the finals.

Watch the then 21-year-old make a tough choice on stage and how it paid off!

2. Laura Bretan on: “America’s Got Talent,” 2016

A quick flashback to 2016 when the world was introduced to the powerhouse opera singer, 13-year-old, Laura Bretan. She came onto the show to prove that she has what it takes to be a star, but Simon shot that notion down the moment she stepped on stage.

As usual, the critical judge, openly admitted that he doesn’t think Laura has it in her to be successful on this show. But boy did she prove him wrong. I think it’s safe to say that the young lady impressed the judges (including Mr. Cowell) and her audience, split seconds into her performance.

But that wasn’t all. Laura went on to have a remarkable journey on the show, and if you missed any of it, we’re here to give you a snippet from start to finish.

1. Paula Jiven: “Sweden’s Got Talent,” 2018

Many 14-year-olds are still trying to figure things out. They’re about to start their new phases in life by heading to high school, they’re thinking about what sports teams to join, and what to wear to the first day of school. Then there is 14-year-old Paula Jiven.

Paula showcased her singing talent on “Sweden’s Got Talent” earlier this year and completely blew the audience and judges away. Everyone from the hosts backstage to the people sitting around the auditorium was impressed by the first couple of notes, but things just kept getting better and better.

Paula sits on the piano and belts out everyone’s favorite classic, “Billie Jean,” with so much ease and passion that it’s hard to believe that an act of this caliber is coming from someone so young.

But, don’t take our word for it!

And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen, six different performances that I know I can watch at any given time, and now maybe you will, too!
