Do you remember when you were in school and things were tough? For example, one day you got to school late because there was a huge snow storm, yet mom and dad insisted that you have to go to school if it wasn’t a snow day? Then, upon getting to school, your teacher assigns a ton of work to just sit around and do for the rest of the day—she won’t be teaching anything new because less than half the class showed up. And, just when you thought that one of the most boring days is done and over with, and you can go home and have a snowball fight with your friends, the teacher assigns you a stack of homework.
Ugh! This day just got way more difficult, didn’t it? Well, if you understand what I’m talking about, then there are probably so many others who feel the pain of a tough day at school, including a little boy from Lafayette, Indiana. The only difference is that this young man reached out for some help and it turned into a good-spirited story.
After having what he classified as a “really bad day,” a little boy called the local police station for some help with his homework. Antonia Bundy works for the Lafayette Police Department and she received a call earlier in January from this child. When Antonia answers the call, the first thing the boy says is, “Can you hear me?” He means business, that’s for sure!
He then goes on to explain that he’s had a tough day and he just doesn’t know what to do. To ensure that the matter wasn’t serious, Antonia probes a little further. She asks him what happened and if he had a bad day at school? To this, he says yes, a bad day at school indeed.
Then Antonia asks exactly what happened at school that led to him having a bad day. Here comes the cutest response: “I just have tons of homework.” He actually had a hard math problem he was struggling with—fractions just aren’t his thing. Antonia then patiently helped him through the math problem.
After the math problem was complete, the boy thanked Antonia and even said that he didn’t mean to bug her but he just really needed the help. But, Antonia was more than happy to help. Lafayette Police Sgt. Matt Gard even praised Antonia for her hard work and he is proud of how she handled the call on January 14, 2019.
