Olympic Skater Glides Across Ice And Starts Irish Dancing When Music Changes

When Riverdance first appeared in 1994, it took the world by storm with its amazing Irish dance routines. Irish dance is nothing new and has been around for centuries. Modern Irish dance includes traditional dance moves and influence from other types of dance forms.

In modern days, you can see so many spins on this classic, traditional routine. Each performance, done with a twist, is something new and different. The unique twists that people add to their Irish dancing keep the form fresh and relevant. This reason may be why people still love and relate to, the dance form so much!

It’s needless to say that Riverdance was what brought the unique style into the mainstream to begin with, combining amazing dance routines, brilliant choreography, and an upbeat, modern stage show with amazing sets, lighting, and music. Even today, Riverdance is still going strong, and people line up for tickets to the shows. I know I have, what about you?

While the costumes and pageantry of Riverdance made Irish dancing watchable and accessible, it’s always been the actual dancing that we are excited about. The high-stepping and fast-paced dancing, done with perfect precision, are amazing.

Ice skating has also been around for a long time. Over time, the sport has also tried to find ways to become more modern and relevant. However, ice skating competition at the highest levels continues to be known for a specific type of routine. Talented figure skaters take to the ice and perform huge jumps and complicated footwork, but it’s often performed to classic or popular music and features a similar dance style among all of the skaters.

Jason Brown decided to change that. As an Olympian and top-class figure skater, he has lots of experience competing in front of an audience and judges. He was determined to bring something new and fresh to his routines, so with the help of his choreographer, he added Irish dance style to his skating performance, and boy are we glad that he did!

This style mash-up could have been a disaster, but Jason completely pulled it off. When he combined Riverdance and ice skating, and when he started the difficult footwork, the crowd couldn’t contain their excitement. You can hear the roar of cheer and applause as Jason twirls and taps on the ice. It’s seriously something that not a lot of us have seen before!
