Heroic Police Officer Saves Two Twin Girls’ Lives After They Were Driven Off A Cliff

Sometimes I just can’t believe the crazy things people go through in their younger years. Many of us have had very happy and what we would call “normal” childhoods. For other children, they experience something much different.

Two-year-old twin girls in San Diego, CA would be examples of children who dealt with something most children can’t say they’ve dealt with. Recently, the girls’ father, 47-year-old Robert Brians (now arrested) drove them off Sunset Cliffs with the goal to end all of their lives. It’s something absolutely no child should ever have to experience under any circumstance.

But fortunately, authorities were there while the situation was going down. The twins’ mother had already called for help after she received “numerous calls and texts from [the father] clearly stating she may not see her kids again.” She did the right thing.

“I could see [the man], and he had one of the girls in his arms, and I have a 2-year-old daughter at home, so I imagined, ‘What if that was my wife and kid down there?’” Police Officer Jonathan Wiese said. “You’re not going to stand there on the cliff and watch it happen.”

Officer Wiese had a very clear view of everything the father was doing in the car, which had landed upside-down on a rock.

“He had both girls. He was holding them and trying to tread water, but they were all going under. One was awake and crying, the other one was pretty lifeless.”

Immediately, Officer Wiese hatched an idea. With a 100-foot-long SWAT  mission leash attached to him at the waist, he was able to travel 30 feet down to arrive at the scene.

The police officer performed rescue breathing on both girls before getting them back on solid ground using a secure leash. From there, the girls were taken to the hospital via ambulance, which was already waiting.

Meanwhile, Wiese waited with the father until a helicopter came to retrieve him.

Quickly, word spread around about the twin girls being saved by the fast-acting officer, and he was praised.

“That’s probably the most heroic thing I’ve seen in my 32 years,” Wiese said. “You just do what you have to do, but after everyone was safe, it hits you and you just want to go home and hug your kids, that’s for sure.”

Good news for the young girls: both “are in stable condition at a local hospital.” It’s amazing to think that if Wiese thought up a plan seconds too late, or if authorities hadn’t already been at the scene, things would have been much different.

But, still, the two girls will require special medical attention as time goes on.

“They will need further assistance for future unplanned doctors visits etc. until they recover from the trauma as well as a team to get justice to keep their father in custody so this never happens again.”

Officer Wiese is a true hero! Watch below for more information on this story.
