Mom Plays Piano In Hospital For Her Son

Few things make a parent feel more helpless than a sick child. When your little one doesn’t feel well, and there’s nothing you can do but trust the doctors and provide a little bit of comfort, it can be frustrating and disheartening. If your child has a serious or terminal illness and has to spend a lot of time in the hospital, that feeling of hopelessness can be overwhelming.

Every day, there are parents all over the world enduring this struggle. They do everything that they have to do to take care of and comfort their sick child. They know that their time with their son/daughter may be limited by something entirely beyond their control.

Abby’s son, Lincoln, is only twelve-months-old but he has already endured a lifetime of pain. Lincoln suffers from a rare and terminal form of epilepsy called malignant migrating partial seizures of infancy. His condition means that he sometimes has more than 200 seizures a day. His mother tries to do everything within her power to provide comfort for her very sick little boy. One of those things is playing music for him. The sound and the power of her loving voice is sure to have a positive effect on her child. It also seems that it is a creative outlet for Abby, who must be under a tremendous amount of stress.

On this particular day, while Lincoln and Abby waited for his appointment at the Duke Cancer Institute, she sat down at a shiny black piano in the hospital’s atrium. She played and sang “Never Enough,” a song from “The Greatest Showman” hit movie soundtrack. The song was for herself and her son, but she slowly drew a crowd, and when the performance was shared online, it touched so many hearts.
