Andrea Bocelli Sings Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” With Hunky Son

What’s better than listening to, and watching, Andrea Bocelli perform a sparkling rendition of a well-loved song? Adding in his son to turn it into a unique duet that seals the deal, and has fans totally swooning!

If Andrea is involved, it’s going to be a stellar performance. Now, with the Italian tenor’s son as his protégé, we can expect vocal perfection, a memorable performance and lots of emotion. This particular performance has all the feels, as the duet combines a modern and classical, English and Italian approach.

Andrea’s son, Matteo, is 21-years-old and seems to have inherited some of the best things about his dad; a great set of pipes and looks to match. Having Andrea as his inspiration, mentor and father come with its benefits for sure, but Matteo does have the drive and natural inclination for music too. Matteo’s been taking piano classes since he was a child, forging his own career in music before only recently pairing up with dad.

In this video, Matteo and Andrea join forces to sing the Ed Sheeran hit, “Perfect,” combining their different styles while still remaining true to Ed’s. It’s a pared-back version of the pop song, recorded live and without bells and whistles, on the Ken Bruce BBC Radio 2 show. It’s only the power of their voices carried by the notes played on the piano. Simple, and genuine.

What’s interesting about this duet is how many influences come together. Firstly, Matteo opens the song singing Ed’s words in English, adopting a more pop-style approach rather than showing off his classically trained singing style. Matteo kept his vocals similar to Ed’s, opting to maintain the original integrity of the song rather than straying.

Conversely, when the mic is handed to Andrea, he sings a translated version in Italian, going in the complete opposite direction for contrast. It’s a beautiful deviation, a much more classical and signature Andrea style that puts the familiar ballad under a whole new light. Their take is unique, combining contemporary singing and lyrics with a bit of old-school Italian flair from a seasoned pro.

Eventually, Matteo and Andrea sync together in Italian then seamlessly harmonize at the 4:00 mark for the best part of the song, ending on a breathtaking note and leaving us with yet another memorable performance.
