One minute everything is as it should be. The sun is shining, there’s bounce in your step, and you’re on your way to where you need to go! But, all it takes is a split second for your world to suddenly change and you’re caught in a situation you can’t get out of alone.
It’s scary! It’s hard to think what you would do if you were caught down and out on an empty road with no help in sight. No one to hear you, see you or offer a helping hand. No phone, no water, no food. It’s the closest thing to being stuck on a deserted island without being stuck on a deserted island.
Tow truck driver Marty Hall Jr. was out on the job in the hills of California when he saw something up ahead that caused him to slow down and take notice. It was a straggly looking dog, covered in the dirt wearing a collar with a leash. This was no stray dog, but he did look distressed and worn down.
Marty got out to get a closer look. He tried talking to the dog, offering him a sandwich because the poor pup looked exhausted, dehydrated, and hungry. The dog refused his offer, remaining still in the middle of the road. When Marty realized that he might have found himself in a strange situation, he figured he might have to stay around for a while, so he turned his truck off.
And, that’s when things fell a bit more into place. He could hear a cry for help in the distance. The dog waited until he got Marty’s attention so he could show Marty the way. Lo and behold, there was a man who fell into a small ditch, injured himself, and couldn’t get up alone.
At this point it was noon. The injured man, and the dog’s owner, Paul, had been lying helplessly on the ground since 5 am that morning. The loyal pup wandered to the main road to seek help while another dog stayed with Paul to keep him company. Marty ran to Paul’s house nearby to tell his wife and call an ambulance. Talk about showing up at the right place just in time!
