Weddings are steeped in tradition. From the wedding ring to the joining of hands, the white dress, the confetti, and flower girls, these are all symbols of purity and fertility. Even German composer Felix Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” is a very traditional song used in western weddings, however, it wasn’t originally composed to be performed at a wedding. It was at the 1858 royal wedding of Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise and Frederick William IV of Prussia that the princess changed up the usual practice of playing music only at the reception. The princess, who was a patron of the opera, loved Felix and wanted to use his piece as a part of her wedding while she was walking down the aisle, which was a very avant-garde move in those days!
Since then, it’s been carried out in countless western weddings, creating a tradition used by many after the princess herself. Just as tradition must start somewhere, like the princess, this couple decided to change it up a little, and make this part of the ceremony uniquely their own!
Mark, the groom, is eagerly waiting for the moment he can set eyes on his soon-to-be wife, Jackie. But, he must remain patient as she and her bridesmaids walk up the aisle. In the meantime, Mark decided to abandon the usual “Wedding March” (even “Here Comes the Bride” wasn’t included!) and replace it with something a little more heartfelt and personal. Taking a cue from Elvis Presley, the king of pop with a couple of epic love songs under his belt, Mark put on his best Elvis voice and delivered a stunning version of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” dedicated to his wife.
His voice is low and raspy, and he sounds very similar to Elvis! He is confident and intentional, and it comes from a deep place of love on his big day. Friends and family are impressed and after the bridesmaids have made their way up, Jackie appears and they exchange glances. It’s a moment suspended in time for the both of them, a profoundly loving gesture on such a special day. I would love to be present for a moment like this. I don’t think things can get more romantic on a wedding day.
