Miracles do exist. They are alive and well and can happen to anyone, and Marcelito Pomoy from the Philippines is a shining example of how life works in beautiful and mysterious ways. We’ve heard plenty of talented singers with wide vocal ranges, passion, and talent. However, this guest on the Ellen Show is about to show something a little different.
Appearing on the Ellen Show, and with the help of a translator, he opens up about his life story and shares with us his incredible voice.
The moment Ellen’s teams caught wind of this talent, they got in contact with Marcelito. And not surprisingly, the young man was taken aback. With the help of a translator, Marcelito said: (The following quote has been loosely translated from Filipino.) “Actually, I wasn’t really expecting it. Then someone sent me a Facebook message from EllenTV.com. [Even after] we [talked on] Skype, I still didn’t believe it. Then I got my ticket saying I’m going to Ellen.” And then he believed!
Marcelito has been singing since he was 7, but it was when he turned 18 that his voice dropped and he discovered he could sing both high and low. He also tells us that as a child, from the age of 7, he was homeless for most of his life. He was a “pinboy” (the person who resets the bowling pins at the bowling alley) where he would make 50 pesos (the equivalent of 1 US dollar), and that’s how he would survive and eat, before finding a spot on the sidewalk at night to fall asleep. He was discovered on “Philippines Got Talent,” when he turned 18, and he thought maybe this could be his way to see his family.
Already, his story is amazing, and he hasn’t even opened his mouth to sing yet. And then he steps onstage where he surprised everyone. Singing the fan favorite, “The Prayer” by Andrea Boccelli and Celine Dion, the audience didn’t expect what happens next. Marcelito starts the song in a higher female voice, singing in English, then quickly flips into a low male voice singing in Italian! The man jumps vocal ranges effortlessly, like a light switch! It’s incredible to witness as he makes his way through the song, pulling off not one, but two parts exceptionally well.
