Bullied Teen Overcomes Fears To Sing Onstage

They say that art is created through the pain. Vincent Van Gogh painted Starry Night while suffering through a bout of emotional turmoil. Taylor Swift writes hit songs after going through heart-wrenching breakups. Some of the best art and music is created during times of sorrow and what was once pain then becomes healing for the artist and the fans.

You really need to feel the emotion to sell it to an audience, I whole-heartedly agree with that point. If you don’t believe in something or don’t feel so strongly about it, then your audience won’t be so convinced; you can be as talented as ever, but things won’t pan out the way they do when you’re going through a whirlwind of emotions and then produce a piece of art.

This is Lucy Kay’s audition for “Britain’s Got Talent.” When the judges asked her where she’s from, she gave a complicated answer that led straight into her backstory. She’s originally from Nottingham, but moved to Glasgow for school, and decided to stay to get away from bullies.

Lucy struggled with being bullied and felt like she could never fit in. She was tormented and was slipping down a slippery slope of depression and lack of confidence. Her mom watched on, wishing she could do something to help her daughter before it was too late, so she asked Lucy, what was the one thing she wanted to do more than anything. Lucy’s answer came out immediately, and that was, to sing.

With the help of her mom, Lucy got an opportunity to help achieve her dreams. She enrolled in classes and applied herself to her craft. Now, before the judges, the girl stands nervously, but ready. And when she opens her mouth, she gives it her all. It’s obvious she’s gone somewhere. Lucy becomes transported, as she uses music to filter her pain and give her strength. This is one happy, and healthy “tortured artist” performance where she’s learned how to harness that pain and make it work for her.

Let us know what you thought about this routine after listening to Lucy sing. She’s won over the entire audience and judge’s panel, that’s for sure!
