Josh Turner, the American country star, has continued to enjoy resounding success since the release of his debut album with the title track “Long Black Train.” This song later became known as his breakthrough single.
With this song, written as a young broke student on the floor of his apartment, fans fell in love with Josh’s low, baritone voice, and ability to pen such hardship into a hit song that would end up resonating with a huge fan base. And with one specific young man.
In the video, Josh introduces the song saying that when the words poured out of him, it was during a time in his life where he didn’t really know what he was doing. His goal was to try to make good grades and stay out of trouble. He threw words together into a song he had no idea anyone would ever want to hear. Funny enough, they did, and it was this turn of events that showed him just how powerful and healing music can be.
Josh received stories from people expressing how “Long Black Train” saved or changed their lives. As a result, it’s become his signature song. Fast forward a few years later, and he’s onstage joined by Logan Blade, a young man who suffers from severe autism. But, Logan has a dream. Logan, who is so deeply touched by Josh’s music, and considers him his favorite artist, has always wanted to join the country star onstage and sing at the Grand Ole Opry together. Josh says, “He still can’t really have a true conversation until you put a microphone in front of him, and that’s when he becomes Logan Blade and he doesn’t have autism anymore.”
In the middle of the song, Josh breaks from singing and passes the torch to the young man. Looking a little shy and overwhelmed, Logan approaches the mic, opens his mouth and sheds his nerves and any bit of reservation. This moment is his dream after all, and he’s living it! Josh is so kind, and the crowd goes absolutely nuts to encourage him. “You ready Logan?” And off he goes, summoning every ounce of strength to showcase his voice. He’s singing Josh’s song with flying colors in what is truly a shining moment for everyone there that night.
