Real courage is the ability to fight against fear. It’s about acknowledging what frightens you, understanding its presence, and then working through it anyway. It’s safe to say that this family is a courageous fighter in the battle for life.
Katie Whiddon is the mother of three children, one of whom was born without all four limbs. It’s a condition called amelia-phocomelia. Katie was only 18 weeks pregnant when her ultrasound revealed that her son Camden would be brought into this world without arms or legs.
Of course, Katie was devastated, and, just like any parent, concerned how her son would be able to accomplish simple, everyday tasks. But by the age of two, Camden had shown that he was no ordinary little boy. His bravery and sheer determination has propelled him to stay strong, and focused, and not lose hope.
In this video, we can hear Katie in the background, as Camden makes his way over to Katie’s boyfriend, Cole Greene. Camden is now 4-years-old, and he is walking. The little one is sitting up by himself, and “…walking just like Nick does…” which is a shout out to the inspirational Nick Vujicic, a Serbian-Australian motivational speaker born with the same syndrome as Camden. Nick has traveled the world sharing his story with millions of people about his life without limbs, and he is a huge mentor for Camden and the family to look up to.
Katie is ecstatic, “…I am seriously crying… You’re doing soooo good, Camden! I am so proud of you!”. This is such an incredible milestone for the family.
