Neglected Poodle Finds Comfort In Rescuer

While we all know how loyal and loving dogs are we sometimes forget how resilient and forgiving they can be too. It still blows me away, that, in some instances, dogs after abuse, neglect (which by the way, is the worst form of abuse for all living beings) mistreatment, abandonment and more can still find the strength to love again. Although it may take some time to readjust, there is still love buried deep, and that second chance still exists.

Layla, the poodle, went through a very traumatic experience that left her hurt and alone. Her options were zero, and she was stranded with nowhere to go, nothing left to do – at the bottom and hopeless.

Nobody likes to see dogs and cats left abandoned on the side of the road, especially injured and left for dead. Annie Hart from Rescue From The Heart and Eldad Hagar from Hope For Paws, in Los Angeles, are two people with extra big hearts who got a very urgent call one day. There was a poodle who had just been hit by a car, and it was up to Annie and Eldad to find the pup. After getting into the car and going on a search and rescue, they were able to locate the dog – she didn’t look good. Straggly, dirty, scared and reticent, Annie had to take her time with the pooch.

She made her way over slowly and carefully, gently nudging closer to the dog who was already trying to back away. Being extra careful, Annie managed to put the leash haphazardly around the dog’s neck, who at this point was shaking. The rescuer inched closer and scooped up the depressed dog who didn’t know what was going on or what else to do. It’s at this moment when the dog is close to another beating heart, that she clues into the fact that she’s not alone, and someone is here to get her out of the mess she’s found herself in. This pivotal moment is so real, and authentic. It’s a bonding point between the rescuer and Layla, the name they gave the pup on the way to the shelter. Despite Layla’s terrible condition, she was able to receive love and find the trust to show Annie how happy she really is.
