Tiger’s Motherly Instincts Kick In During Birth To Twins

A tiger is one of the most beautiful creatures, and like all moms (human or not), the Momma Tiger in the video down below will do anything to keep her cub safe. “What happened?” You might be thinking. Well, let’s get straight into it.

Giles Clar, a zoologist assigned to take care of a pregnant tiger, Kaitlyn, takes us through the entire process before the birth, during the delivery, and after the baby is born.

He begins, “It’s now 4:00 in the afternoon and Kaitlyn has been in labor on and off for the last 5 hours.” While he’s recording her, he shares that she’s reached the part where she’s having consistent and strong contractions. They show her groaning as she has one contraction after another.

They zoom into this clear ball-like thing called the “amniotic sac,” and it’s supposed to burst to show that the baby is on the way. After some time, the amniotic sac bursts, and right away the cub starts coming out. After all of that pain, the cub slides right out! There’s another room where other zoologists are watching the birth through a television, and they break into cheers when they see the cub!

Next, Kaitlyn starts licking the cub. Giles explains that “[t]he sensation of Kaitlyn’s licking should trigger the cub’s lungs to start working.” But, things didn’t turn out that way and Giles notices a problem. The cub has gasped three times, but it’s not breathing properly. Giles breathes out anxiously when the cub still hasn’t breathed for two minutes, and he considers giving a hand to Kaitlyn to make sure her baby is ok.

Kaitlyn doesn’t give up, though. She continues to lick the cub nonstop. Finally, after minutes of anticipation, the cub begins to breathe! Then, a few seconds later, the cub makes its first noise ever, a small squeal and it’s very adorable.

Kaitlyn lays back, clearly tired, but it’s not over yet because she’s having twins, and there’s still another cub on the way!

This second cub comes out without any problems. In fact, you can see him pawing at his mother, trying to get himself out! Once he’s completely out, he’s moving his legs around, kicking, breathing well, and making the same noises as his twin brother. The members cheer and clap, again.

Both cubs are healthy and are now members of the Australian zoo.
