There’s no “good” place to abandon a dog. In fact, no dog should be left, and if it does have to happen, should there be a life or death reason that a pup needs a new home, then the very least an owner could do is bring him to the local shelter. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened to Kai, the Shar-Pei crossbreed who was found tied to a railing with a suitcase and taken in by the Scottish SPCA.
On the other hand, as sad as it is that Kai was abandoned in the train station, this set of circumstances might have been a blessing in disguise for the pup!
Poor Kai was found alone with a suitcase containing a pillow, some toys, food and a bowl. After being taken in, photos of him went viral around the world. While Kai had a microchip and the Scottish SPCA were able to locate his owner, it was his original owner authorities found, not the current one who abandoned him. It wasn’t until months later that the owner who left him was located – a mom who was trying to sell Kai. She came down to the train station to meet the buyer, but it was a missed connection – he left immediately, leaving her stranded with the dog she wanted to sell because her daughter has asthma.
To make the last train, the mother left the dog at the station with the suitcase, claiming she did nothing wrong by leaving him behind. While the mystery of Kai’s strange tale was solved, the next step was finding him a forever home. Although there were hundreds of applicants, one man, Ian Russell, was selected to adopt the beautiful, well-natured, clever dog. Ian was selected because he has the time, the experience of previously owning a dog, the right finances, and no small children! What a puppy tale come true!
