Who doesn’t know the iconic, “Grease?” Believe it or not, everyone’s favorite classic turns 40 years old this year, and of course, that’s a reason to celebrate. Not only has the film given viewers so much to remember, but it also stars John Travolta. John is hands down one actor in Hollywood who has had an unbeaten run in the industry, during his prime time, and he still keeps shining bright today.
He is also heavily celebrating the 40th anniversary of “Grease” and rightfully so. John was first seen promoting the occasion at a concert, where he was dancing away to the beat of the music. He then made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show.” Although this appearance was for his upcoming film, “Gotti,” the conversation quickly turned to “Grease” and some of its memorable scenes and dance moves.
Jimmy starts the conversation off by congratulating the star on 40 years of “Grease.” He then moves on to complimenting the actor’s skills in dancing, acting, and singing; for those who don’t know, John sang in the film as well. The talk show host even mentions that his young nieces try to copy John all the time, that’s how much of an impact he has had on people with his film. Jimmy then brings up the dance steps in the last song of the film and how the actor had everyone wanting to break into dance with that move. This step happened to be John’s suggestion to the song, and it was not a part of the choreography until he showed everyone how it works.
John explains how his suggestions became something a part of the film: “The four corners [name of the dance move]! Like in “Pulp Fiction,” I grew up in all these novelty dances. So in “Grease,” they needed a step for “You’re the One That I Want” at the end. So I said, ‘Well, we used to do the four corners, why don’t we do that?'”
We all know that Jimmy wouldn’t let a chance like this go to waste because he quickly asks John to get up and show the dance moves for himself. The actor is excited and happily moves to the beat of the music, teaching Jimmy the four corners. It’s pretty cool, and something I’ve been trying to master myself!
