Dreams are about pursuing what sets your soul on fire. Doesn’t matter what age you are, where you’re from or what you’ve got. Life is short and not spending it chasing after what you want leaves the story unfinished. It’s those open loops that need to be tied up! Lucky for Jacqueline Faye, she’s got a chance to give her dreams a shot.
Jacqueline is 53-years-old and lives on a farm far outside the city. She’s nervous. She has chickens, ducks, horses, and Dave, the peacock who has a friend named Chaz, the white peacock who likes to attack his own reflection. She’s married to Bobby who’s at home minding all the animals while she’s on the “X Factor” stage in the audition round.
She’s here to sing “You’re My World” by Cilla Black, and to hopefully knock the socks off the judges. But, immediately, she’s not really well-received. The judges appear doubtful. Simon gives her a look, Ayda cuts her off, and the others look a little disinterested. It doesn’t matter though. Jacqueline made it this far and she’s ready to have a go at her dreams.
Her first note doesn’t seem to wow anyone just yet, but as she builds power and momentum, every judge changes his/her tone. She quickly sings her way to the top, pulling out a voice no one expected she could muster. Jacqueline has excellent control and sound, never squeaking or falling short. She’s got a pure pitch and the audience loves her! As she finishes the song, each judge agrees, she’s remarkable…
“…All I could think about was how proud Bobby would be of you, and your peacocks at the farm [too]; and, I was just falling in love with that moment for you and falling in love with you and falling in love with my husband…I just want to say that I think you’re incredible…”
Each judge sings her praises, giving Jacqueline a “yes,” until Simon chimes in and says “no.”
“As you walked out, I’m kind of thinking to myself maybe you walked onto the wrong show by mistake and I’m thinking this isn’t going to be great – and then you were!” Thankfully, he’s joking and he gives her a “yes!” I think a majority of the people in the room knew he was just joking.
