They say you usually fall in love when you least expect it. I don’t know if that’s true for all people in every case, but I know that was true for me personally. Months after I made the decision to take a break from dating to focus on myself, I met the man I’d now be marrying. Here we are eight years later. It’s surreal how we find the one, sometimes when we’re not even looking.
Brooklyn, New York-based photographer and filmmaker, Jeremy Cohen, also found true love in an unexpected way. But his love story was quite different from most people’s: he wooed his neighbor while they were both quarantined. From gaining her initial attention to going on socially-distant dates with her, he explained the whole process to us.
It all started when Jeremy spotted Tori Cignarella dancing on her rooftop one day.
“I was actually hanging out with my roommate … and I was actually doing the dance from ‘High School Musical,’” Tori explained.
Her dancing caught Jeremy’s eye.
“I thought she was really cute from far away,” Jeremy said in an interview with The New York Post. “During this quarantine, I think everyone is fiending for social interaction. I was like, ‘Oh my god, a girl. I haven’t seen one for so long.’”
So, Jeremy called out to her, and they exchanged waves. Jeremy even attached his phone number on a piece of paper to his drone and flew it over to her.
“I was not expecting to get a phone number out of it,” said Tori. “We could see his balcony pretty clearly from where we were on the roof and he basically just kind of shouted over to me.”
Now the rest is history! Tori and Jeremy are now dating during quarantine. So far, dates have consisted of dinner and wine from each other’s own balcony while video-chatting with one another. Too cute!
“This date is going really well. Depending on how long this quarantine lasts, I might just end up in a long-distance relationship with someone who lives across the street,” Jeremy said.
Fortunately for us, Jeremy created three adorable TikTok videos from the time he and Tori met to the moment they’ve began dating. For those of us who are taken and not living with our partner, we could definitely learn something from them!
