It already takes a lot of guts and bravery to appear on a show like “Britain’s Got Talent.”There are so many emotions involved! Even wearing the right outfit is important!! Then there’s not knowing where you stand among the rest of the contestants, and wondering if you’re even any good. And let’s not forget trying to pick the appropriate song that showcases your voice! That’s probably the biggest one of them all!
So when Simon hears 16-year-old contestant Hope Murphy sing only two notes of her song, then asks her to choose a different track, you can imagine the shock and panic.
Hope comes on to the stage, and already Simon is giving her a bit of a hard time. Nothing too serious, but he asks a few questions that dig at her. Once the judges have had enough, she starts to sing but gets cut off because Simon wants to hear something else. The audience gasps, the other judges gasp, and yet Hope manages to keep it together, because wow, that could have been traumatizing!
Luckily, she had a couple of other songs in her back pocket and was able to pull one off flawlessly. She sang Maxwell’s version of “This Woman’s Work.” She’s got a deep soulful voice that she can throw around and reach the high notes that make this song what it is. As she picks up speed, she injects life and emotion, winning over the judges and bringing a smile to Simon’s face.
