One of my favorite things about the summer months has to be all the fruits that are available. I can go into any given supermarket and pick out whichever juicy, succulent fruit I want to eat. This process is so much more convenient in the warmer months because you know that you’re bound to get a cantaloupe, strawberries, and watermelons that taste much better than they do in the winter.
Although there is that convenience of having access to a whole lot of fruits at the grocery store, wouldn’t it be so much better if you can just successfully grow your own right in your backyard? There’s nothing better than wanting to have a sweet slice of watermelon and going into your garden to pick the perfect one.
Now, you may not have thought about growing something like a watermelon in your garden but let me tell you that it’s possible, and we’re going to show you how it’s done! I think one of the main reasons people may shy away from attempting to plant watermelon seeds is because the plant, and its vines, take up a lot of room. So evidently, there won’t be enough room for other things to grow if you have numerous watermelon vines taking over your garden.
There is now a more efficient, and space-friendly way to grow your own because all you need to do is plant them in a container. Of course, that’s not all, but it’s a step in the right direction for everyone who was afraid that watermelons aren’t a possibility.
To grow your own, here’s what you’ll need:
- container
- drill (to drill holes for drainage)
- potting soil
- old pantyhose or tee shirt
- fertilizer
The idea may make you feel that this is a long process, but I can assure you that you don’t need to be a professional farmer or gardener to make this one work! Also, you don’t even need a lawn or your garden to make these watermelons grow. Since you’re using a container, you can put them anywhere as long as you’re able to water them and they’re getting plenty of sunshine.
You can now grow an abundance of your own watermelon and avoid any disappointment you may get the next time you bite into a store-bought one that has very little flavor.
