There’s nothing like a little Irish tap dancing to get the crowd riled up! It’s fun and the beat is undeniable! The flow and cadence creates a beat that’s well-timed and enjoyed by everyone. With roots in Irish, Scottish and French culture, Canada is teeming with this popular style of tapping as a result of generations of immigrants making the trek across the pond to the land of opportunity.
This video is an exceptional showcase of a different style of tap. They’re doing an acapella piece where the sounds of their feet become the music rather than the music supporting the tapping. You’ll see exactly how when you watch it!
These young women from Nepean, Ontario, Canada, have banded together to put on a really neat performance that’s kicking up quite a storm! Their feet become their instruments and there’s no additional music. Just their raw talent, excellent, timing and impressive moves! The girls get into formation at the Sue Fay Healy Irish Dance Studio, ready to knock the socks off their admiring audience.
There is no music that starts but they magically commence right on the beat. Without a rhythm to fall back on, they have to rely on each other to be perfectly in sync. Their moves are tight, and their technique is bang on. And, they’re all smiling! Obviously, they love doing this. It brings them a lot of joy to be able to pull this off as well as they do.
The first really cool move is when they are in line, and three of the girls raise up on their tippy toes, using their big toes to actually tap along and create a sound while balancing. That’s an impressive move all on its own. Then, right at the 0:56 mark, they all jump in the air at the same time and land in unison to create one sound, one click. Coordination is key at this point because if they are even just a little bit off, it won’t have the same impact. But, they nail it!
Their routine gets fast, building up to a high-energy ending that has the crowd hooting and hollering! They finish on a high note and it’s a resounding applause from everyone. These girls put on an excellent show, one that undoubtedly took a lot of time, practice, commitment and love to pull off.
