When are you too old to make a birthday wish and blow out the candles? In my opinion, never! You’re always as young as you feel and at the end of the day, age is just a number. With that said, I always encourage everyone to make a wish before they blow out their birthday candles. If nothing else, that one small moment has you looking forward to something for the rest of the year.
The one difference I can tell that comes with age is that as you grow older, your wishes will make more sense and be more practical. There may have been a point when you were five or six years old and wishing for a pony or unicorn to magically show up. Or, you watched your favorite TV show way too often and wished for powers similar to your favorite cartoon. It’s happened before, so we don’t have to deny it.
But, as you grow older, you’re more sensible with what you want. Maybe it’s something as simple as hoping for a vacation to come your way soon; or, how about wishing for your favorite pair of shoes that everyone knew you wanted? A bigger bonus at work perhaps? I think I’ve tested my luck in the past and even wished to win the lottery — nope, THAT didn’t happen.
Although we often associate children with making unrealistic wishes and being hopeful for something that they probably won’t ever get, we can’t deny that they’re extremely funny when it comes to what they want. The little girl in the video below is the perfect example.
She is celebrating her birthday with her loved ones and is sitting at the end of the table with all the attention on her; she’s surrounded by her family. You can even see all the flashes and lights on the little girl, which means she’s the local celebrity today and everyone wants a picture of her!
Mom is hustling and bustling around making sure that the cake cutting ceremony is just perfect for her little princess. They place a hat on top of her head and bring her a cake lit with one candle. Everyone begins to sing happy birthday as the little one continues to bask in all the attention.
Then, she’s asked to make a wish and cut the cake. She does both but doesn’t wish out loud (well, no one really does, right?!). That’s when family members ask her what she wished for. The girl answers the question without any hesitation, and her request has everyone going red in the face! It’s also hilarious!
