There’s always been this stigma surrounding lions and tigers—they’re aggressive, and you should never be in their company. That’s what we’ve always been told, right? Well, although we should refrain from getting too close to one of these animals (mainly because they’re from the wild, and yes, they do prey on humans), there are instances when it’s completely safe to be around them.
There are also instances when these big cats will melt your heart with the interactions they have with other animals and humans; one of these interactions is exactly what we’re about to show you in the video below—it will make your heart melt and give you a giggle or two!
Abby, the Dachshund dog, lives at a wildlife park in Oklahoma. Because she lives there, it’s understood that she knows the power of the lions that are also at this wildlife park. But in the video below, it’s clear that she’s not intimidated by their gigantic size (compared to her), or their aggressive behavior. In turn, she runs around in their cage.
But, Abby just doesn’t run around to the lions’ cage! It seems like she has made good friends with one of them at the facility and it’s impressive to see the two mingling so well with one another. Don’t worry the lion, whose name is Bonedigger, hasn’t made the dog its prey. In fact, their bonding is one of a kind!
Keep reading more about Abby and Bonedigger’s friendly relationship! We promise you’ll want to watch them bond in the footage at the end of the article!
When you think about a dog left alone and helpless in a cage with a lion, of course, the worst thoughts come to mind. The first thing you’re probably thinking is, “Why would someone do that?!” And it’s fair to feel this way without knowing exactly how well the dog and lion get along!
Little Abby and Bonedigger have become great friends and found good company amongst each other since they both live at the wildlife park. This pair is an example of opposites attract — a tiny, harmless Dachshund completely comfortable around an enormous, meat-eating lion. The way the two play with one another makes it seem like they’ve been friends forever! You can even see Bonedigger looking after his little friend like it’s one of his cubs.
The lions (there’s more than one), of course, know that the little wiener dog is no threat to them, so it seems like they enjoy her company. Bonedigger, the huge lion that Abby is seen with, is ok to have Abby in his company. When the staff saw both Abby and Bonedigger together, they say that they were never expecting such a fun and smooth encounter. We’re sure it came as a pleasant surprise.
If not for the caregivers and keepers at the park, this strange yet amazing friendship definitely came as a surprise to us! We’ve heard about dogs (sometimes) befriending cats, like kittens that people would keep as pets around the house. But, to make friends with a cat that’s significantly bigger and much more dominating, totally blows our minds! That doesn’t go to say that we’re not happy with Abby and Bonedigger being friends! We’re so glad that they found a partner to spend some quality animal time with at the wildlife park!
Do you have stories about unusual animal friendships that you’d like to share with us? Maybe your dog is best friends with a fox? Or, the family cat got around to making friends with a coyote (I know it sounds a bit unlikely)? We’d love to read about these stories in the comments!
In the meantime, click on the video below and watch Abby and her friends at the wildlife park. If you found this interaction amazing, then don’t forget to like and share this post with family and friends!
