Appearances are deceiving. And Oscar Hernandez from Glendale, Arizona, USA, knows this cliché all too well. Since he was a boy, he’s always been a little bigger, with extra meat on his bones and lots of extra strength. So much so, it was his father who told him, from a young age, that because he’s built bigger, he was put on this planet to play football. However, growing up with his grandmother who was a performer, Oscar felt inspired by the leading lady in his life, instilling within him something that stirred his soul.
But, with a traditional father in his life, Oscar felt the need to appease him, and as a result, played football at school. He played sports and was successful, but it wasn’t him. He eventually quit football to pursue his passion and dedicate his time and energy into performing. And once he stopped pretending, he began to flourish.
This is his “America’s Got Talent” routine set to Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and wow, did he deliver. From the get-go, right after Oscar was done introducing himself, the judges weren’t sure what to expect, especially after he gave over his mic to the stagehand. The look on the judge’s faces said something along the lines of, “He’s got no props, and he just surrendered his microphone…he’s alone on stage, so he must be… dancing…?!”
Dancing is exactly what he did — his moves are nimble and tight. He’s a professional, summoning every ounce of confidence and finesse, winning over the audience and judges. Oscar shows us that it’s all about following your heart!
