It’s summertime and it seems that a massive heatwave has hit most of the United States, North America, and all across the world. If you have watched the weather in recent weeks, you probably noticed that the temperature in your hometown was hotter than usual, even for summer. But, you definitely weren’t the only one — nearly everyone noticed that the heat and humidity have been stifling.
While plenty of people prefer summer and warmer temperatures over cold, most people will admit that this extreme heat isn’t much fun. It’s even too hot to go to the beach or the pool. Your best bet is to stay inside and cool off in the air conditioning.
Every time we get extreme weather, in the summer or the winter, I think about the people that can’t get out of it. There are people whose jobs require them to be outside no matter what it’s looking like outside. In a farmer’s case, the weather dictates nearly everything that they do.
With this most recent heat wave, it’s been hot in Canada, too! And along with the hot weather, there’s also a drought, which isn’t a good combination. It’s especially difficult for all the farmers who rely on the rain to water their crops. It’s a simple formula really — without water, nothing grows. Farmers in regions affected by this drought have planted their crops, but without rain, everything grinds to a halt.
These can be difficult circumstances for any farmer, but some are dealing with it better than others. Luke, J.J., Ty, Brock, and Dusty Hunter are five Canadian brothers who spend their days working on their farm. No matter what the weather is like they are outside, working hard. But, this recent drought is particularly distressing and since they can’t do anything about it, they decided to sing.
They wrote their own lyrics, set to the tune of Garth Brooks’ famous song, “Friends In Low Places.” The lyrics are funny and certainly appropriate for the situation. I hope that the rain shows up soon. If not, these guys might have a career in the music business!
