There is a good and bad to everything. For example, living in a rural area means you get fresh air to breathe, an abundance of homegrown fruits and vegetables to eat, and peace and quiet that you usually don’t get in the suburbs. All of that comes as a part of the territory when you live far away from the city and those are some of the positives! But then, you also get some tragic incidents as well.
Spotting roadkill is pretty much an everyday thing for those who live in the mountains or a rural area, and this mishap has to be one of the downfalls of being in the rural area. It’s sad to see roadkill. A similar incident occurred with Steve Knoop and his friends, who were driving down the road when they spotted a tiny, brown lump in the middle of nowhere — it was a fawn. Can you begin to predict what they initially thought? (I know I can, and it doesn’t sound like good news!)
Fortunately, the situation was caught on film because what happened next may not be what a lot of people would imagine. Most people would assume that seeing an animal lying on the road means that it was either on death’s door or was already lifeless. Things were planned differently for this little guy, though.
Instead of continuing their drive, Steve and his buds decided to pull over and take a look at the baby deer who appeared to be limp — perhaps run over by a vehicle. As one of the men approached the animal, he noticed that it was still breathing. Carefully, he scooped up the fawn and placed her out of harm’s way.
Next thing you know, the fawn quickly trots off to join her mother in the woods! Whew, that was a close one. The poor baby deer just didn’t understand that lying in the middle of the road would be dangerous. We don’t blame it, given the fact that the animal was probably scared and didn’t know what to do. Luckily, we can say that this rescue was a complete success, thanks to these men.
I don’t know about you, but when I see videos like this, it makes me have even more faith in humanity. These men showcased a beautiful act of kindness.
