I’ve always loved duets. Although there are incredible singers out there who don’t need a singing partner to complement their voice, I think two is better than one for certain performances. That definitely includes love songs! Some famous lovey-dovey duets that I personally love include “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher and “You’re the One That I Want” by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
But not all great duets have to be commonly known by the general public, and they don’t have to be sung by two famous individuals. And, also, they don’t always have to involve singing a love song. One father-daughter duet of the song, “The Prayer,” which Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion first performed, is an example of all of that.
Mat Shaw and his daughter, Savanna, recently uploaded their duet on YouTube. The two sat in their living room to sing together during the recording.
Savanna starts singing first with a confident, powerful, yet angelic voice. Her voice is a lot more mature than I’d expect it to be, and it’s clear that she has been singing for quite some time.
After several lines, her father eventually begins his assigned part of the song, also with a well-developed singing voice. Like father, like daughter!
Then as Savanna and Mat sing together, Mat’s deeper voice being overlapped by Savanna’s sweeter, higher-pitched singing is such a great combination. Don’t get me wrong; both sound incredible apart, but together, things are much more intensified. And as they got to the end of the song, I got chills down my spine when they hit high notes in unison. Just wow!
As expected, the duo both aren’t new to singing. It’s a hobby they’ve both loved for years. However, it wasn’t until early March 2020 that they decided to start sharing their talent with the YouTube community. Whether they were just shy, still developing their singing skills, or simply weren’t ready to publicizing their great talent, I’m sure they both had a good reason why they didn’t want to post their singing online until now.
I think Mat would be a great opera singer. As for Savanna? I think Disney is calling her name!
