At this point, we’re all in the same grim situation. We’re stuck at home wishing we could be elsewhere. We miss little things from handshaking strangers’ hands to randomly visiting loved ones at their homes. We’re worried that we or someone we know will contract the virus. It’s all an overwhelming and disheartening situation, but it’s something we can get through together.
The Taylor family of Wellington, Somerset in England is certainly playing their part in sending positivity energy. Recently, the family decided to used dozens of colorful pieces of chalk to revamp their brick home. Six hours later, their home was bright and lively, just what their neighborhood needed to smile during this hard time.
“We took inspiration from another post we saw on Facebook where they had done half the house, and originally that’s what I was going to do,” said 26-year-old Fern Taylor.
With several dozen bricks to cover, Fern and her partner, Marco DeFazio, along with their two daughters, Arabella and Matilda, got right to work.
Although the plan wasn’t to cover each brick, particularly the ones that were higher towards the roof, DeFazio found a way to make it happen.
“But my partner said we couldn’t stop there and got the ladder out and said he’d do the rest.”
Although the final product was incredible, boy, was it a lot of work!
“We used jumbo chalks, and it took us about six hours. We probably started with about 40 [sticks]. The girls really enjoyed it. Matilda is two and didn’t quite understand, but she did help a bit,” said Fern. “Arabella is four and was a keen helper. She helped for a good half an hour and then they sat and played and watched mummy and daddy finish.
The Taylor family’s rainbow home and bright blue door definitely stands out from the neighboring, natural red-bricked, brown-doored homes of their neighborhood. Many people have already stopped to admire the beauty of the unique home.
“The amount of people who have stopped and smiled, or asked to take photos, has really cheered up. It’s so sweet,” the mother of two said. “People have down while driving past. We even had an ambulance stop and say they loved it.”
