Dog’s Instinct Saves Her Life From Falling Branch

For a lot of pet owners, and especially for those who have dogs, our pets are like members of our family. If you’re anything like me, you spend more time with your dogs than you do with people. As someone who works from home and lives in a very rural area with few neighbors, my dogs are my constant companions.

Because they are most certainly my family, I would do nearly anything to keep them happy, healthy, and safe. When we go for walks down to the creek, or they go for summertime swims in the pond, it’s up to me to look out for them and keep them safe from any danger. But, accidents can still happen and the world is an unpredictable place.

Fortunately, other than an occasional mishap, my dogs have been pretty lucky. That doesn’t mean that something won’t happen tomorrow. Sometimes, you can’t predict when something awful could befall you or one of your pets. If something goes wrong all of a sudden, I hope that my dogs are as fortunate as the fortunate dog in this video.

When Ben Lucier sent his dog Sprocket out for a potty break in his backyard in Ontario, Canada, he certainly didn’t expect what happened minutes later. Sprocket was minding her own business and doing her business in the snowy yard. Suddenly, she sensed that something was amiss, and ran for the house. What seems to be only a split-second later, a huge tree branch fell into the yard. The heavy branch was enough to injure Sprocket seriously. But thankfully, she was completely safe.

It looked like heavy ice and snow may have contributed to the branch breaking. Sprocket must have heard what was about to happen and ran for cover. I’m so glad she’s safe!

I haven’t heard many stories like this one of Sprocket. I’m so glad that her instincts kicked in when they did! Have you heard animals running for safety before things get bad? Share your stories with us in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you!
