There was a time I’d jump on a chair in a panic if I saw a little spider crawl across the floor. The mere sight of a daddy long legs would send me running out of the room screaming at the top of my lungs, frantically searching for the nearest broom. I was a pipsqueak and thought a creature one-millionth the size of me would somehow destroy my life. Now, spiders, millipedes (although they are gross…), ants, potato worms and other creepy crawlies, although they are creepy, have no effect on me. They’re just pests, and I pick ‘em up and shoo them out!
Now, if I had the same encounter as this woman, I can’t promise I’d keep my cool. I absolutely have no idea what I would do, especially in the middle of the night, in the dark, half asleep.
Getting woken up from a deep sleep in the wee hours of the morning is already confusing and disrupting. Realizing that the crashing and banging noises are coming from inside your home, near to where your children are sleeping, is terrifying. Bonnie from Bixby, Oklahoma, USA, woke up around 4 in the morning when she heard sounds comparable to a catfight! I’ve heard catfights before and they are the farthest thing from pleasant.
Bonnie assumed it was her dog and cat fighting, but she was wrong. “I woke up, and the cat and coyote came running into my room,” she said laughing during an interview, “and it’s still dark.” She flipped on the lights, and lo and behold, her cat was being chased by a coyote that managed to find its way into the house. She screamed and grabbed a golf club for protection. Meanwhile, her miniature schnauzer is barking up a storm, scaring the coyote and rendering him timid and crouched down in the corner.
With all the commotion, the kids wake up, and with a wild animal in the house, Bonnie knew she couldn’t handle this herself. She closed the door and called the cops for back up. Three officers showed up with catcher poles, and used the loops to carefully grab hold of the coyote, and usher the animal back outdoors, safely.
Bonnie’s property backs out into the woods, so it’s not uncommon for wildlife to make an appearance. But, running into the house? That’s a different story. While she isn’t exactly sure how the coyote got in, she thinks that when the wild animal spotted the cat outside, he lunged forcefully at the cat standing in front of the door, therefore opening the door and getting inside. A coyote is just a little bit bigger than a spider, so I’d scream and call the cops, too!
