While many believe that the shyness of others is an adorable trait, truth be told, many shy folks find that their personality holds them back. In fact, it isn’t unheard of for shy individuals to avoid certain social events, activities, or even career opportunities.
But 14-year-old Courtney Hadwin, who is shy and quiet herself, has an incredible singing voice she knew she couldn’t hide from the world forever. In fact, you might even recognize her from ‘America’s Got Talent.’ During the show’s championship series, the British singer completely blew everyone in the room away with her performance of ‘Pretty Little Thing.’
Before Courtney’s performance, she made an honest confession: “I’ve always been quite shy, and I do find it difficult to talk to people. But I feel like when I sing, I turn into a different person.” ‘America’s Got Talent’ judges found that out immediately during Courtney’s audition.
The audience instantly began cheering as Courtney started singing. You can see her rocking a purple and blue jumpsuit on a stage with flashing lights. Every time the teen singer hit a high note or busted out a sleek dance move, the audience would roar louder. Who would have thought that a girl who looks this confident while performing on stage would be so shy in real life?!
If you close your eyes, it doesn’t sound like Courtney is singing live. She’s so good, her natural voice sounds like an edited recording!
After her performance, the young singer got a standing ovation from everyone in the room. She got a “Woo!” from Simon Cowell and a double thumbs up from Howie Mandel. Way to go, Courtney!
“Courtney, that was b****y fantastic. Let me tell you something, Courtney. Something has changed in you. Trust me, in the time you were on the show last year to now, your interaction with the audience, the confidence,” says Simon. He ends off with: “I think this has been my favorite performance of you so far.”
Coming to Judge Mel B., she too was stunned, particularly at how Courtney has already committed to a fashion and music style. “Most people, it takes somebody a lifetime to figure just one of those things out,” said the judge.
All in all, this young singer already had many successes come her way, but she has only seen merely a fraction of what she will achieve with her life. Age aside, the fact that Courtney is able to set her shy disposition on the backburner as she puts on an incredible performance on stage in front of America is utterly empowering!
