Let me tell you something. As a child, I had moved to three different elementary schools and five different homes. This was all in the span of seven years. The moves were hectic, a lot of work for my parents, and a lot of adjusting for us kids when it came to school, new friends, and new neighborhoods.
But, there’s something about switching homes that is refreshing. Although moving into a new home can be intimidating, it’s also a very exciting experience. When I was younger, I loved going house hunting with my parents, and there have been days where we’ve just walked into one that’s under construction.
Have you ever just walked into a random under-construction home, or an open house, with no intention to purchase a new home and just to look around? One elderly couple did the latter when they explored a local open house that had recently sold.
The couple commented on the home and complimented its many features. However, when they walked into the kitchen, they couldn’t believe their eyes. On the counter were dozens of personal photographs spread around, but they weren’t just any photographs; they looked familiar, but the couple did not place them there. How could this be?!
A furniture-less, sold open house plus personal family photos on the kitchen counter could only mean one thing: someone in the family was about to move into that very home!
Next thing you know, the couple’s grandson and son follow them onto the outdoor patio to greet them. “You guys are going to give me a heart attack,” said the elderly man as he hugged his grandson.
The elderly couple was in complete shock as their relatives used to live on the opposite side of the country. However, this time, they were moving nearby to be closer to the family. But the grandparents were yet to find out! Thankfully, the son was secretly recording his parents’ reaction when they discovered both the photos in the kitchen and unexpectedly greeted their family outside the home, and as expected, it was priceless.
When the couple came across their son and grandson, I immediately burst into tears. It was such a sweet and happy moment!
As everyone knows, family comes first. Sometimes giving up a house in another location is nothing compared to home sweet home where your loved ones reside.
