Cops Break Into Song At Donut Shop

I love 80s Americana movies! There’s something about the grittiness of the video quality (vintage VHS!) and the cinematography and slick one-liners that are embedded into my memory. There’s romance, and danger and storylines that are original, and not from books! And we can’t forget some of the most famous scenes that have gone on to shape pop culture as we know it today, weaving their way into a more digital world – like lip syncing!

After the ice bucket challenge had its moment of fame, lip sync challenges seem to have stepped up and replaced the former. They’re fun, quirky, and show off a more down-to-earth side from groups of people who might otherwise be considered more serious. Like these cops from the Sherman Police Department of Texas, USA, who let their guard down to show that even though their job is to serve and protect, they still have time for a little fun, especially when it comes down to an old-time 80s classic movie!

It starts in a donut shop where there is a serious crew of police officers hanging around eating donuts and drinking coffee. Everyone is on break, milling around, chatting and conversing. The camera pans over to four cops discussing how they want to do a lip sync challenge but the good ideas have already been taken by other departments. They’re thinking of what they should do next when they notice a pretty, young woman standing at the counter. Then one officer says, “Hey! Look at that… she’s lost that loving feeling!” They want to break the ice, so they grab the microphone (a chocolate éclair), get up and tap her on the shoulder.

What follows is a full-on act and a seriously funny tribute to “Top Gun.” They got all the little nuances bang on as the guys in the shop come together and break into the song “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling,” originally done by the Righteous Brothers, and reprised in the film. The officers are serenading the young lady who plays the confused patron part well, the expression on her face is priceless, but the guys don’t seem to care! They’re mid-song and at this point, everyone is singing in unison and it’s pretty darn good! These guys have such a fun sense of humour, and did a fabulous job at replicating the famous scene. In fact, it’s so good, their video has over 7 million views!
