If you’re a pet owner, then I’m sure you’ve rubbed your pet’s belly before and tickled them, so they wag their tails or smile. The only thing a pet owner wants to do is make his/her furry friend feel loved and give them all of the attention possible.
Of course, zoo keepers, and zoos in general, want their animals to feel that same love, too. The employees at zoos work there because they love animals, so they treat them with the greatest care. The penguin in the video down below is Cookie. Cookie is loved and adored. He’s a “Little Penguin,” but despite his small size, he’s the mascot of the Cinncinati Zoo’s Bird House.
The penguin is incredibly tiny, and the video begins with Cookie stretching his wings and shaking his tail, looking pretty happy.
The woman who is recording, Patricia Sund, works as a Guest Keeper for her book research and her blog, and captured this adorable video to share it with the world; it currently has over 15,000,000 views, and there’s no doubt that the views will only continue to rise, because how often do you see a penguin getting tickled?
After greeting Cookie, Patricia explains to the viewers one of the first things that may catch your eye. Cookie has a bandage on his leg, the reason being that he’s got bumblefoot.
Bumblefoot is a bacterial infection that occurs mainly in animals held in captivity, but that doesn’t mean that Cookie isn’t happy. He just can’t swim too much just yet, which is why he’s in the room with the staff.
The woman records Cookie and coaxes him to follow her, but it takes her a few tries to get “the pretty bird’s,” as she called it, attention.
He continues to walk to her, and you can hear his little footsteps, the flapping of his feet hitting the floor. He catches sight of a zookeeper calling him over with his hand down to Cookie’s height, and he runs to him.
The zookeeper starts to tickle Cookie, and right away the penguin starts to let out a laugh, and he starts squealing! He sounds like he’s screaming, and his laughter is quite strange. It’s cute, but it’s also funny to hear.
The video ends with the zookeeper petting Cookie, who looks quite happy.
